My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon for wisdom tooth extractions that did not take my insurance. I was super terrified because I’ve never had any surgery or even any dental problems ever! So I needed to find a place that I could feel confident in. I read reviews on this place and they were all pretty good. So I scheduled my consultation and Dr. Koos was so nice! He was very thorough and professional and he made me feel more comfortable about the surgery. The day of, I came in, filled out paper work and minutes later I was in the operation room. It was bright, clean and modern. The assistant was very pleasant and asked me what kind of music I liked and put it on the iPad. :)  That’s about all I can remember! Thankfully. lol. Dr. Koos called me from his own phone to see how I was doing the first night and so I could contact him if I had any issues. It’s been over a week now and I feel pretty much 100%. I didn’t have to take anything for the pain after the 3rd day or so. It was really not as bad as I built it up to be and I believe it’s because of the care I was in at this office. I would recommend  Dr. Koos and Ora to everyone with dental needs!

Overall the best dental experience I have had. Went in monday for consultation, scheduled for surgery (widsom teeth extraction) friday. I went in and was actually seen early. I came out with little to no swelling. Didn’t leave the office groggy or dazed either. Dr. Koos even called me that evening to check up on me. Really great care.

I love this place.  Dr. Kralj and Dr. Koos are wonderful; everyone is professional.  I live in Lakeview and I travel all the way down to this location because I love this location specifically.  Originally, I decided to come here because of the great yelp reviews and I’m so glad I did.

My dentist referred me here for my wisdom teeth extraction because he said the surgeons here are great and the location is convenient for me as well. He did my xrays here and gave me a copy so I wouldn’t get charged for them again. He gave me a referral for this place and I went home and made a phone call a few days later to schedule a consultation here. At first, no one picked up the phone and I had to leave a message, but they did get back to us at a reasonable time. I also want to mention that sometimes when I call and leave a message, they didn’t return my call and I had to call back a day later. Most of the time they did return my calls promptly.

When I arrived for my consultation, I was surprised that they have free parking for their customers in the South Loop location. I was prepared to pay for parking, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. +1 star for that! Also, when you walk in, the reception desk and waiting room is decorated beautifully. They offer complimentary coffee that you make from the Keurig, which was nice. This is one of Chicago’s only green oral surgery practice. +1 star for that!

My consultation couldn’t have been any better and it was a great experience overall. Dr. Koos was my dentist and I recommend him to anyone. He explains everything thoroughly and tells you exactly how long the process is going to take. He also tells you how he was going to do the procedure. He answered all of my questions and I was on my way to schedule my oral surgery. Although I provided them with my xrays from my dentist, he did another for me without charge because their xrays is 3D and it is pretty much more accurate. +1 star!

During surgery, I came here and I had to wait 10 minutes more than my scheduled appointment time. No complains though because this place was packed. I was called and brought into the surgery room towards the back. The room was really nice and they play relaxing music and they also have a nice sky design for you to look at. I felt really comfortable and I wasn’t nervous at because the room was so cozy and nice. I was put to sleep on sedatives by the assistant and the last thing I remembered was Dr. Koos walking into the room and putting the IV on me. Next thing you know, I was lights out and I woke up 45 minutes later feeling out of it. I didn’t remember a thing! I was brought to the recovery room and stumbled a bit, but then left after 10 minutes later.

He prescribed me all the medication that I needed and more, so I never had to call him back for something stronger. I was in very little pain afterwards, but my jaw was stiff for the 1st few days. After about 4 days, I stopped taking my pain medication. I am writing this review 11 days after my surgery and I am feeling pretty much 90% now (no pain, just a little jaw stiffness left). Another thing about Dr. Koos is that he calls you the same night after surgery and ask you how you are doing. He gives you his cell phone number, so if you have any questions, you can call him directly. +2 stars!

Before my first visit to this office in September 2012, I researched and researched what seemed like every dentist in the city. I knew that I was going to need extensive work as I had not been to the dentist in 7+ years, and was not going to go to any old dentist on the corner. I seeked this office out based on the wonderful reviews here on Yelp, and because they seemed to be very empathetic to those with fears of dental work.

Overall, the office is very cool. Big, comfy chairs in the waiting area with a big TV, mini-fridge with drinks, and water/coffee. I liked that instead of a clipboard with paperwork to fill out, they handed me a tablet. Cool :) The rooms themselves are very nice with mood lighting, artwork, and a TV over each chair. When they take your x-rays, they put them up on the TV in front of you and explain everything to you.

I had my original consultation with Dr. Mark Broomhead. I was shaking in the chair when he so much as put the mirror in my mouth, but he was very compassionate about the entire situation. He was as quick as possible while still being very thorough and gentle, and never once made me feel bad or embarassed about the terrible condition of my teeth. He presented me all possible options at all different price ranges, giving me the pros and cons of each. He informed me of what needed to happen right away, and what could wait a little while until I got some more money together. Having no insurance and paying everything out of pocket, I find this to be a very admirable quality in a business.

I had a surgical consultation with Dr. Steven Koos. I ended up needing all 4 wisdom teeth out, 5 molars, and 5 bone grafts where those molars had been in order to have implants put in eventually. Both consultations were very friendly and pressure-free; they are not trying to just sell their services. They are truly concerned with their paitent’s health and are very accomodating in offering different options to suit just about any budget. They make it known that they appreciate your business and loyalty as a patient.

I had my surgery with Dr. Koos, which was an amazing experience. I opted to have IV sedation. When I went into the surgery room, the assistant asked me what music I would like to listen to. I said the Beatles, and she put it on for me. She explained a few things to me, and then gave me some laughing gas. After that, Dr. Koos came in and put my IV in himself; the next thing I know I’m being woken up to go home. Dr. Koos called me later that night to make sure I was feeling okay, and he gave me his cell phone number and said to call anytime. I called him with a question on a Sunday morning, and he returned my call within 15 minutes. How many doctors/dentists do that?

I am now 5 days post-op, and I could cry I am so happy with how well things turned out. I have not been in any pain whatsoever, which I mostly attribute to the wonderful work Dr. Koos did and partly to the medications he gave me. He didn’t give me some whimpy pills and make me call back and say “I’m still in pain, I need a stronger medicine”, which I’ve found to happen quite often to many people I know.

I do have a couple pieces of constructive criticism. They could be a little more detailed in after-care instructions and what to expect as far as possible complications; they gave me one sheet of paper with general guidelines, but a lot of what I’ve been doing has been what I found through my own research or after calling their office daily with questions. Also, one of their receptionists at the front desk needs a MAJOR attitude adjustment. Every time I went in or called and saw/heard it was her, it ruined my mood. I haven’t heard or seen her in a while, so I hope she is no longer working there. But in case she is, watch out! :P
